I just have to add my 2 cents to the passing of Michael Jackson. I came home from the movie with the kids (Transformers) and saw it on the news. I was just feeling a little bummed out about it, he just had such great songs but such a strange life, but then they started playing "Billie Jean" and the memories just came flooding back. The Thriller album was one of the first tapes I ever owned, and I used to listen to side A every night as I was going to sleep for several months. That "tape" (haha how old am I?? LOL) was a lot of the soundtrack (along with Duran Duran and the Police) to a very pivotal summer, 1984, when we were living with my dad and had a teenage babysitter all summer, so we listened to a LOT of top 40 radio. It was a lot of fun, and good memories. I really love jackson 5 songs, and most of his songs. I remember one time my Aunt was a big fan of him or for some reason my dad knew a kid in our ward (Sterling Peterson) and we brought him over to her house for a surprise and he had a sparkly glove and outfit, and did the moonwalk and little MJ dance for her and she just loved it. Fun times. I see dances all the time and I think so many of the movements are variations of "Thriller". He was such a trailblazer!! I always felt bad for him over the years, it seems like he had so many personal problems, and who knows the truth about his abuse allegations, he just seemed so tortured. I hope that its not true, but you never know, right?? I guess if it is, he'll be fairly judged now. I can't imagine living with the kind of worldwide fame and microscope he did. Any child of the 80's I'm sure is feeling some twinge of sadness today. For me, I will always remember where I was when I heard the news. What other "news" that has come about in recent years that you will never forget where you were when you heard it?? Here are mine:
JFK jr-We were living Lehi and leaving for vacation in Mexico that morning when I saw it on the news
911-Pregnant with Wyatt, Mark called me from the dairy and told me to go downstairs and turn on the news....sad, scary day
Challenger Space shuttle with Christa McAuliffe on board- that one was REALLY sad because I think it was in 6th grade and we were watching it live on TV in class........way tragic!
I know there are more, I just cant think of them right now. This is going to be all over the media for weeks to come, so I thought I'd say my piece about it before we get too sick of it all.

It feels like the end of something, but I know it won't end. He's always remained big even when he went out of the spotlight. His music will always be big!
It is definitely saddening. So, so many fans are mourning I'm sure. He's probably the most known person on the planet, I'm sure!
such a strange and sad life but he definately was an icon in the 80's.
Summers are great trying to keep kids busy. Hope all is well. Next time stop by when your in Utah.
I got tears in my eyes reading this :( I think the same as you. I have so many good memories when I hear his songs. I had the records and tapes as well ;) I also had 2 of his dolls...dang wish I still did.
As weird as he ended up being i'll always remember him as my first little crush ;)
How funny I too can remember everywhere I was at those same news announcements! He was so talented and an absolute 80 icon and memories for us all. Sad his life ended with such controversy.
